Gina's Background:

Kent Arthur Sandes was a regular Joe, born and bred in Oregon, United States. There was never much to say about Kent, being the middle child of a couple who had seven, three older boys and three younger girls then Kent. He was literally, in the middle. They grew up on a large farm, enough acres there to share amongst the boys when the time came. Neil, Arby and Joseph, Kent’s older brothers, were born so close in age, only a year, year and a half apart to the next, easily fell in to the life of a farmer. Neil would specialize with the horses, Arby with the cattle and Joseph with the general running of a large scaled farm, Kent who was five years younger then Joseph did not really fall in to this lifestyle. And when his sisters where popped out, he was too young to be really taking care of them too. So, he was the odd boy out, whom as soon as he graduated from High School, would sign up for the military. He chose the branch of the Air Force, a Combat Communication Specialist. With his career, he did quite a bit of traveling and this is how he met his wife in Italy, Vera Digone. They hit it off right away and even though Kent had the habit of being out on short tours, they seemed to deal with this just fine and soon enough Eugina Isabella Sandes was born, Feb 3rd 1980 in Venice Italy.

The first ten years of Gina’s life would be spent in Italy, never meeting her American relatives; there are quite a few offspring on her father’s side. She would attend to American schooling on base, though they lived off base, the girl fluent of both languages of course. Vera and Kent didn’t have any more children after Gina, and fate wanted it that Vera was also taken away from them by cancer, just as Gina turned 10 years old. Kent was devastated. Vera’s family was a well to do family, more then upper class in Europe really. And they did not appreciate that all of Vera’s assets was given to Kent to hold until Gina was of age. Kent loved his daughter, but there was only so much he could do right away for her, his own grief too big. He had to resort to sending her to his family in Oregon. Talk about a change of lifestyle, right there. Gina did not meet with this change too well though and rebelled in any way that she could. She’d run away, she’d not do her chores and refused to speak English for a whole three months. She did everything to get out of there, to be with her father. After a year of terrorizing Kent’s older brothers, one of his sisters who had just married a fellow from Texas, ending up moving there to raise horses, allowed Gina to come there. They had no children, yet, and Sarah was more of the attitude of big sister and friend, then substitute parenting unlike her older siblings. Gina preferred this, without a doubt, and flourished in the care of Sarah and her husband, frequently visited by her father.

She adjusted well, did her chores on the farm and did well in school. It didn’t take her too long to find that she’d want to become a veterinarian, her love for animals a natural thing. At age 16 however, her father wanted her to travel with him to his next base in Africa, and so they decided she’d be with him until she’d graduate High School. The last two years of her High School, she took in Africa. This is also where she decided that it was in the direction of exotic animals she’d be educating herself in. She quickly formed long term friendships with the clinics in the surrounding areas of the base, volunteering to help and learning as she went. She also made great friends with kids of her own age, though military would soon enough separate them it was a good social thing anyway. She’s always been active, though not overly athletic. Just enough that she’s agile and healthy, doing swimming and the usual hobby like sports like soccer, softball and volleyball. The two years spent with her father is the best she’s had since the years in Italy where her family was whole.

She went back to the States to study Zoology and become a veterinarian as she dreamed of while spending time with Aunt Sarah. Meanwhile, her father remains in the Air Force. There he meets Miguel Mendez, who becomes a good friend despite some age difference. While this friendship grows, Gina goes to school and returns to Africa to spend some time in the field. She had just turned 23 when she was infected. Studying lions, they had come upon a lioness that was in need of serious help, they brought her to the preserve where Gina has been working since getting her degree. The lioness was in such a bad shape, they decided to keep watch over her that night and Gina was the first one to take watch. Little did anyone know that the lioness was a therian, and she did heal faster then most. Gina came in the cage to check on her, when she suddenly attacked. Gina’s screams were heard and rangers came, saving her life by tranquilizing the lioness with enough drugs to kill four elephants. Mauled, Gina was taken to the hospital for treatment.

3 years has passed now, since she was infected and also taught by the very same lioness that infected her. Gina learned all she needed to know about being a therian (she can take half form) from this woman and her pride, becoming a valued asset for her knowledge of animal anatomy (in specific the felines) and hunting skills. Although a traumatic experience, Gina adjusted well and her father accepted the fact that his daughter now had a whole other family too, to depend on. He was there from the second day she was laid up in the hospital to the end of her training as a cub in a pride. And it was because of this, he could offer his help to Miguel in freeing his little sister from a safe house. Gina was brought in to this, as she had decided to leave Africa to work in United States now, being offered a job at the San Francisco Zoo as the specialist for the felines. The plans were made, both Kent and Miguel pulling on all their military resources, to extract Tisha from the safe house.

This is how Gina and Tisha met, plans were made, arrangements were made, and the two headed to San Francisco together. Here, Gina met with the local Pride and started to work. She even bought a house, preparing to make this her new permanent home. She and Tisha also became very close, which was unexpected but welcome to Gina. Everything seemed to be going great, when Gina received a phone call and she left without explanation to anyone. While she was gone, the house she had just bought was sold and her job at the zoo filled by someone else. Now, nearly 6 months later, Gina is returning to San Francisco. She knows there has to be consequences to her disappearance and it seems she is ready to face it.
